Home Birth

What is home birth? How do I know if it’s for me?

I am so excited to be able to educate and join you in this part of your journey. Midwifery care itself is close to my heart because it fosters the components needed for physiological pregnancy and birth to take place as it was designed. I believe that when supported with individualized and intentional care (meaning you are the focus and we spend one-on-one time together all the way through your pregnancy), mothers can experience a joyful and safe journey from pre-conception, into pregnancy, and all the way through birth and into the postpartum period.

Home birth is primarily for low-risk mothers, but is made possible by researching together and implementing small changes to ensure you and your baby are healthy and safe as changes arise. Not only that, but we can use information to reduce common fears you may have, like pain or uncertainty. It’s no secret that childbirth is painful… but there is purpose in it, and a well-designed opportunity to see your relentless strength as a mother (which, in turn, will prepare you for the journey of parenting in the most beautiful way).

Midwifery care is a shared responsibility between myself as a midwife and you as the parents. I am equipped with the necessary tools to manage and treat abnormal scenarios, but consider it my primary goal and desire to be a watcher and keeper of “normal,” so that together we can avoid the need for intervention. If this sounds like you, and you love to use information to make your own decisions for the wellbeing of you and your family, this is for you!

What does midwifery care look like?

Prenatal visits can take place in my office in Wise, or in your own home if you prefer. At each visit, we get to take up to an hour of uninterrupted time to discuss your current stage of pregnancy, draw or review lab work, create a personalized plan for the coming months, discuss your birth desires, track your vital signs, observe baby’s development and signs of health, talk about life, and more.

At 37 weeks, I go on call for you until it’s time for baby’s arrival! I will join you in your home for the labor and birth of your new little one, bringing all the necessary items for a safe delivery (and of course excitement and joy to join you as you meet your baby!).

Postpartum visits take place in the comfort of your own home in the first week, followed by office visits through the first 6 weeks after your delivery. We observe and discuss all the little changes taking place for both you and your baby, and create a plan for continued growth and health long after our visits come to an end.

Where do we start?

Please reach out as soon as you know you are pregnant or think you may be interested in midwifery care! I’d love to get to know you as soon as possible. We can schedule a phone consultation or plan a time to meet in-person right away so you can ask all of the questions on your mind. This is when we can discuss fees, hopes and plans for your pregnancy, any current care you are receiving, if you’d like to have collaborative care with a physician, and talk about all your desires for your labor and birth!
