The Midwife
I’m so glad you found me here! I’m Anna Sackett, a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), a doula, and an advocate of natural childbirth and holistic living. I moved to Southwest Virginia in 2022, and I’ve had the privilege of serving the Tri-Cities, TN area since then with some lovely midwives and doulas.
My story
A little background story may help us to get to know each other better – I like to go back even as far as my childhood, to welcoming my little brother as my mom birthed him in the water in a tiny birth center. She gives me more credit when she shares the story, but I can at least say that I remember leaning over the edge of the tub, encouraging her to breathe, watching my dad support her, and soaking in the calm-intensity, all while proudly wearing my homemade puff-painted “big sister” tee shirt.
I joined my momma at a few other births after that to help with photography (and take in the different journeys of mothers, watching my own come alongside them in an emotional and physical supportive role, too). Fast forward to 2018: God provided an opportunity for me to serve overseas while studying to become a midwife. I lived in the Philippines for 3 years, observing and joining in the privilege of being “with women,” the meaning of the word midwife. Each day (while extremely challenging to the mind and heart) confirmed my desire to pursue the knowledge and skills needed to ensure safety and peace in some of the most difficult times in a woman’s life.
When I returned, I took to the hard journey of adjusting back to life back “home,” and began studying for my exam while finishing clinical studies – which, in a roundabout way, meant becoming a Certified Doula as well so I could support some families in the hospital.
It has been a seemingly slow transition to where I am now, but I am eager to fill a space in this area of Southwest Virginia, educating and providing out-of-hospital healthcare so that you can experience and walk through the childbearing period with peace and joy!
The hope
To think I would be where I am right now… well, I suppose it isn’t the biggest surprise, considering my very first introduction to childbirth. That being said, I know that not everyone can remember their first exposure to birth in this way… there tends to be a generalized fear, nationwide even, surrounding childbearing and the birth process itself. My hope is to be a part of the return to trusting the Design of our bodies’ processes that allow us to welcome new life into the world.
My vision is to walk with families through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum time, and encourage understanding of life’s processes so they may experience joy and safety as they welcome new life.
Please reach out to me if you’re interested in knowing more about midwifery care (and what it could look like for me to support you), doula care, home birth, natural birth, childbirth education, or well-woman care. Whether you’re thinking about becoming pregnant, already are pregnant and considering who your provider will be, or you’re looking for information on reproductive health in general (postpartum care, peri-menopause, etc.), I’d love to be a resource for you.

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
